What Time Do Balloon Flights Start?

What Should I Wear?

Comfort is key when it comes to ballooning.

We recommend wearing casual clothing, closed-toe shoes and dressing in layers. Early mornings can be cool before sunrise, but temperatures often warm up quickly once the sun is up.

Avoid high heels, sandals or footwear that may be difficult to walk in on uneven ground. Remember this is an adventure activity so wear something you aren’t afraid to get a little dirty.

Is Transport Provided?

Yes. After meeting your pilot and crew, you’ll be transported to the launch site and returned after the flight.

In selected locations, flight packages with accommodation transfers are also available, making the experience even more convenient.

What Happens Before Take-Off?

One of the most exciting parts of the morning is watching the balloon come to life.

After arriving at the launch site, you’ll see the crew lay out the balloon and begin the inflation process using cold air and then heating that air using the burner. This usually takes around 25 to 30 minutes and provides some fantastic photo opportunities before the flight even begins.

How Long Does The Experience Last?

What Does The Flight Feel Like?

Many first-time passengers expect the sensation to be similar to an aeroplane, but ballooning is much gentler.

Can Pilots Control Where The Balloon Goes?

What Is The Landing Like?

There are two typical sorts of landings.

Some are upright touch-downs, while others involve a drag before the basket comes to a stop, either upright or on its side. Both are completely normal and safe. Your pilot will guide you through the landing position beforehand so you know exactly what to expect.

Do We Land Where We Took Off?

Not usually.

Because balloons travel with the wind, the landing site is often several kilometres from where the flight began. This is all part of the adventure and why a ground crew follows the balloon throughout the journey.

What Happens After We Land?

Once you’ve landed, the ground crew will meet the balloon and assist with the pack-down process.

Guests are welcome to get involved and help deflate the balloon, or simply stand back, take photos and watch the process unfold. If conditions allow, you will also be able to climb inside the balloon at this stage.

Can I Bring My Phone Or Camera?

Yes. You’re welcome to bring your phone or camera to capture photos and videos during the flight.

We simply ask that phones remain on Airplane Mode and that calls are not taken during the experience out of consideration for other passengers.

Can I Bring A Drone?

No. Drones are not permitted during balloon operations as they can create safety risks for aircraft and passengers.

Can I Bring My Dog Or Pet?

Unfortunately not. The noise from the burners and nature of the flight can be stressful for animals, so pets should be left safely at home.

Can We Fly Over My House Or Choose Where We Land?

Hot air balloons travel with the wind, which means the exact flight path and landing location cannot be guaranteed in advance.
